Fascial Stretch Therapy

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a unique method of assisted stretching where the Therapist gently guides the client’s joints through various passive ranges of motion all while under traction. The goal of FST is to target deep layers of connective tissue in order to suppress the neural tone on the fascia that is often mistaken as “tightness”. Relaxing and downregulating the nervous system reduces joint restrictions and passive movement throughout a full range of motion opens up the articulating joint space.

Functional Range Conditioning

Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) is a comprehensive joint training system that is backed by scientific principles and research. The purpose of FRC mobility training is to acquire and maintain joint range of motion while also fortifying the tissue load bearing capacity and ability of the joint. When a joint is challenged via neurological signalling from the brain to articulate throughout its work space or at end range of motion, the nervous system receives efferent biofeedback to not only retain the ability to create the stimulus but also promote adaptation to structurally reinforce the associated tissue.

How does Stretch & Strides apply both FST and FRC into one Mobility Session?

Just like the name states, Stretch & Strides is a personalized blend of both FST and FRC with the intentions of helping clients make progress Towards Confident Motion. Each Mobility Session is individualized to the client’s needs for that particular moment. Some clients enjoy a more calm and downregulating session while others prefer to be challenged and achieve new abilities.
Many people seek out the Mobility Studio to address physical discomfort that they are experiencing, which indicates the session to lean more towards achieving relief and functionality of the region. Others proactively seek out mobility training while they are not experiencing discomfort in order to combat natural entropy and gradual degradation of our joints. Each session will be a combination of table-based assisted stretching to expand each joint’s work space as well as rehearsing mobility training in order to register and “save the data” of the available range of motion to the brain. Additionally, each Mobility Session is concluded with a prescribed mobility routine for the client to adhere to by dedicating a few minutes each day to practicing specific motions detailed in their guided mobility videos.
Oftentimes, recurring clients report back to their Mobility Specialist that they are trending pain-free and elevated motion, so we continue to build upon previous sessions by layering on progressions and complex movements to increase efficiency and fortify the body for anything and everything. Sometimes unexpected, irregular motion happens in our day and as a result one feels physical discomfort in their joints. Perhaps John pulled a muscle in his back that weekend while shoveling the driveway and we prioritize decompressing the lower back through trunk rotation and hip extension to recover and reestablish pain-free movement. Maybe Jessica danced the night away in her heels at a wedding and her lower legs and posterior chain are particularly sore, so we address hip flexion and ankle mobility.
